Origins

In the bustling streets of Kugane, amidst the intricate tapestry of Hingashi's complex social hierarchy, Kurone stands as a silent sentinel. Born from the ashes of a once powerful yakuza family, this enigmatic organization has seamlessly been transformed into the covert arm of the Shogun's authority; or so they think.Long ago, the founders of Kurone hailed from a renowned yakuza lineage, their roots entrenched in the underworld dealings of Kugane. However, destiny had other plans for them. Their original leader unexpectedly died, and the remnants rallied underneath an unlikely figure; a young noble by the name of Harunobu Kurou.Yakuza no more, Kurone found themselves all but conscripted by a shadowy figure that both claims to serve the Shogun and has demonstrated political sway to reinforce that claim. Their benefactor claims they recognize the need for a force that could navigate the intricate dance between shadows and honor, and now employs them as a deniable asset. A sword to strike enemies both within and without.To the common citizen, Kurone are enigmatic figures that always seem to appear when trouble does. Or to the pessimistic, trouble follows them wherever they go. The former see them as protectors and agents of stability. The latter fear the unseen and undefined influence they wield. Regardless, Kurone remains a symbol of authority, working to preserve the harmony of their homeland.

OOC Summary

Kurone is a medium frequency RP free company with an emphasis on eastern, particularly Hingan, themes. In character, we explore nebulous areas of both conscious and authority. Our free company uses a yakuza family as an origin, but times have changed. Once upon a time Kurone could indeed be called true yakuza. Now they have become more. Or less, depending on perspective. As a completely deniable asset, they serve Hingashi through a mysterious benefactor that has proven to have the Bakufu's ear. This position gives them much freedom, but also places them in grave danger quite often.Kurone is roleplayed at a moderate power level as we find this gives our players enough influence to be interesting, but still lore abiding and fallible. We are particularly looking to add more Hingan characters to the free company. Failing that, other far easterners such as Domans are desired. Outsiders are welcome to interact with us, but must come up with their own reason on why they'd be interacting with such a group.We do enjoy other activities outside of RP and FFXIV together, such as playing League of Legends, Magic, & Total War & doing content such as savage raids, HoH, PoTD and treasure maps.

Harunobu Kurou

Fool of Amahara

A practiced Red Mage & talented blademaster. Harunobu's swordsmanship is said to be imperceivably swift, earning him the moniker "The Eastern Wind". Though he is the heir to a Hingan Lord & is well educated, he willfully goes against societal norms. To this day he is as rebellious as he was in his childhood, from which he has developed a reputation as an eccentric fool amongst the more traditional crowd.

Harushina Kurou

Lord Butterfly

A skilled shinobi that is quiet, shy, and humble to a fault. Though he is but recently returned from many years of banishment, the kind nature of his soft heart has yet survived the arduous trials of his training and hardships. He is largely known by his childhood moniker "Lord Butterfly", which was given due to his particularly small and effeminate appearance.

Sima Qian

The Grand Historian

A sophisticated and urbane warrior-scholar from northern Yanxia, and the editor-in-chief of the Torii Times. Qian uses his newspaper as a platform to expose political corruption in the Far East. Living by a creed of honour, humility and aesceticism, this journalist appears mild-mannered and docile. Yet beneath the sycophantic facade exists a hardened, determined edge..

Aiya Kikuchi

Dragon of Azai

The little dragon as some also call her is one of only two surviving members of the Kikuchi clan, displaced rulers of the isle of Azai. Outwardly a force for chaos and mischief, Aiya is actually a cunning woman who bides her time until she can reclaim what is rightfully hers. A strong body and a tempered mind make her a formidable opponent, but a kind heart can make her an equally reliable friend.

Kiyoshi Matsuba

Auspicious Wanderer

As the second son of Clan Matsuba and one of Seirai's Twin Pines, Kiyoshi was once a respected noble. But the youth abandoned his titles and journeyed west in a quest for freedom. He was found and trained by a strange and aloof auspice. He has recently returned to the nation of his birth, his only purpose being to test his unnatural combat prowess at every opportunity. As one who lets the wind dictate where he goes, it is no surprise he's ended up where he now considers home.

Miyasuki Kazurai

The Blind Archer

A highly reputable daughter of a Daimyo, she follows her clan tradition of onmyojutsu to protect Hingashi from yokai and other malevolent spirits. A socialite who prefers to battle with her words than with any weapon, she does seem to favor the bow from time to time and is rumored to be able to shoot in pitch black.

Matsunaga Saito

The Stoic Guardsman

The third son of a samurai clan sworn to the Kurou family, Matsunaga will inherit little upon his father's death. Growing up, he became fast friends and drinking buddies with Harunobu. Now, in Kurone's time of need, he has been called upon to assist in keeping Kurone's estate secure. Matsu, as he calls himself, dutifully stands guard at the door to the home. While he appears lax at times, little escapes his attention and he greets strangers with a deadpan stare.

Miyoga

The All-Seeing

Head of the clan of namazu that serve Harunobu in repayment for a life debt. He is the eldest brother of himself, Totosai, and Koga. Often seen just outside the door to Harunobu's office, Miyoga knows all that happens in Kurone's estate as if he had some sort of supernatural power. Or maybe it's because it is often Miyoga who does Harunobu's paperwork for him. Regardless of his legendary wisdom, he must still rely on others for action, as he is unsuited for any sort of confrontation.

Totosai

The Fast One

The middle brother of Miyoga and Koga, Totosai has only one outstanding trait. His speed is truly something to behold, but suspiciously, he must snort some type of white powder before he is able to complete this feat. When asked, he says it's a 'nasal energy enhancement treatment'. Totosai is often used when Kurone needs something delivered with haste.

Koga

The Kitchen Kami

Koga is simultaneously the youngest and grumpiest of the brothers. Blessed with a tongue as sharp as a kitchen knife and an uncanny chef's intuition, Koga is the one who prepares most of Kurone's meals and Kami help them if they critique his food. Koga's most treasured possession is his chef's hat, which he won from a competition in Kugane: 'Kugane's kitchen kami'.
